Bio

Bill Rosner was hired as the head softball coach at Fontbonne University in the spring of 2008, making the 2016 season his eighth season as head coach. During the 2015 season, Rosner and his coaching staff led the Griffins to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive year and were ranked as high as No. 18 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Griffins finished the season 30-11 overall while going undefeated SLIAC play. Not only do the Griffins excel on the field, but also in the classroom. The team has finished top ten in grade point average among NCAA Division III teams in each of the last five years (2010-2015) and held the No. 1 GPA in the 2011-12 season. Rosner and coaching staff have won SLIAC Coach of the Year is 2012, 2013 and 2014.

In 2009, Rosner’s first full year as Fontbonne’s head coach, he led the Griffins to a share of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship.  That season the Griffins finished with a 21-18 overall record and an 11-3 SLIAC record.  In 2010 the team finished second in SLIAC regular season play, but won the conference tournament gaining an automatic bid to the NCAA national tournament for the first time in Rosner’s career as head coach. In 2011 and 2012 Fontbonne rebounded to win the conference and conference tournament going 28-2 in regular season play and an undefeated mark of 6-0 in tournament play. This again advanced the Griffins to the national tournament for the third straight year. 2013 marked a record-breaking season as the Griffins posted a 34-12 record, tieing the most wins in a season, and advancing them to the NCAA national tournament once again. The Griffins were ranked #23 in the NFCA rankings during the 2013 season. During the 2014 season, Rosner and his coaching staff led the Griffins to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth year in a row and were ranked as high as No. 21 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Griffins finished the season 34-7 overall while going undefeated at home and 17-1 in SLIAC play. The 34 wins tied the school record for most wins in a season and the Griffins also won 20 straight games, another school record.

Rosner is the winningest coach in Fontbonne Softball history, and along with associate head coach Mike Akers, won their 100th game as head coaches on May 2, 2012.

Prior to becoming Fontbonne's head coach, Coach Rosner spent more than four seasons as an assistant softball coach at Fontbonne from 2002-2006. During that time, Fontbonne advanced to the NCAA Division III National Softball Tournament three times. Coach Rosner spent 2007 and 2008 as the assistant softball coach at NCAA Division I Saint Louis University  leading them to conference tournament play for the first time in school history. 

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Coach Rosner brings more than 15 years of club level coaching to Fontbonne. He has spent time coaching with the St. Louis Lazers, St. Louis Chaos and St. Louis Fusion. Coach Rosner attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Bill lives in Bridgeton with his wife Mary and has four children Taylor, Billy, Samantha and Blake.
