Griffins sweep three games; extend winning streak to seven games
The Fontbonne University women's softball team won three games yesterday to close out their nine-game Florida trip with a record of 7-2. The Griffins won seven games in a row after dropping their first two games of the Spring Break trip. Fontbonne heads back to St. Louis with a 12-4 overall record.
Yesterday, Fontbonne defeated Manchester College 10-7, North Central College 2-1 and Frostburg State University 3-2.
In the game against Manchester, Fontbonne put on an offensive display pounding out 12 including two doubles, a triple and a home run. Every Griffin that recorded an at-bat tallied at least one hit as Fontbonne displayed a balanced scoring attack. Senior Marissa Simon and junior Jessie Pratt drove in two runs apiece. Sophomore Lindsay Schaefer picked up the win on the bump for the Griffins and also blasted Fontbonne's lone home run.
In the game against Frostburg State, junior Cassi Glixman blasted a game-winning home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to fuel the Griffins. Cassi tallied two RBI's in the game while her twin sister Dani recorded the other RBI. Schaefer picked up her second win of the day on the mound for the Griffins pitching in refief.
Fontbonne will start St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play next week as they play at Principia on March 25th.
