Griffins start season 0-2

St. Louis- Fontbonne University women's volleyball opened their 2014 season with two losses today. The Griffins were defeated by both Loras College and Hanover College in three sets each at the Washington University Labor Day Classic.

The Griffins were out of sync in their first game of the season, totaling just 13 kills with a negative hitting percentage as they fell 8-25, 13-25 and 16-25.

Fontbonne came alive in their game against Hanover, after a four hour break, with an exciting battle. Fontbonne put up a fight falling 20-25, 25-27 and 19-25. The Griffins put their offense to work at the net with 39 kills while Hanover slipped 42 themselves.

Leading Fontbonne was Kersten McDonough with 26 kills on the evening, 19 of those against Hanover. Emily Merick was the only other Griffin in double-digit kills (10). Krista Beyer tallied 16 digs overall and Lynsey Wehrenberg totaled 30 assists. Beyer was libero against Loras with Maddie Stadler taking the reigns in the back row against Hanover.

The Griffins are set to take on Buena Vista Sunday, August 30th at 10am and Washington University at 2:30pm to conclude the Labor Day Classic.
