Volleyball rallies for 3-set win
St. Louis- Last night the Fontbonne women's volleyball team's offense came alive to defeat St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent, Blackburn College. Fontbonne is now 4-9 in SLIAC play and 7-15 overall. Blackburn is kept to only one win on the season (1-18 overall, 0-11 SLIAC).
It was a team effort as Fontbonne's kill leaders included three Griffins: junior Abbie Bergtholdt (12), senior Ana Hibbeler (11) and junior Taryn Ballmann (10). Overall 40 kills were recorded, of which 34 were assisted thanks to freshman Mandy DeWitt's hustle and soft touch.
Defensively, the Griffins stepped up as a team at the net, accumulating five of six total blocks on double effort. Digs were also led by three Griffins: Hibbeler (13), senior Olivia Thurmond (13) and Ballmann (10).
Fontbonne recorded nine service aces on the night and only allowed 10 Beaver kills.
Fontbonne has a ten-day game break and returns to Lee McKinney Court on October 19th at 3:00 PM against Lindenwood-Belleville University.
