Volleyball overtakes MacMurray 3-1
St. Louis- Fontbonne women's volleyball pulled out the tough win on the road against St. Louis Intercollegiate team MacMurray College last night. The Griffins finished winning the last three sets after losing the first 27-29. Fontbonne is now 3-7 overall and 6-12 in conference play. MacMurray falls to 2-6 overall and 4-13 in the SLIAC.
Senior Olivia Thurmond recorded 38 digs in the four-set win, adding to her team high 390 digs on the season. The next Griffin dig leader is Amanda Fieldhaus with 180. Juniors Taryn Ballmann and Abbie Bergtholdt led the way offensively combining for 31 kills, thanks to the added efforts from Freshman Mandy DeWitt who accumulated 38 total assists on the night.
Thurmond sits at the top of the SLIAC dig leaderboard and is 7th in service aces with 19. Ballmann and Bergtholdt are both in the top ten in the SLIAC for number of kills per set. Bergtholdt is ranked 7th in hitting percentage with .205. As a team defensively, Fontbonne is sitting in the number two spot with 1088 digs on the season. Junior Cassie Dougherty is currently tied at 6th in solo blocks with 15.
