The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team added two wins to their season record this past weekend. The Griffins traveled to Bloomington, Ill to compete in the Barker Classic Tournament at Illinois Wesleyan University. The Griffins fell to Lincoln Christian University ( 25-19, 18-25, 19-25, and 17-25) and Monmouth College (12-25, 15-25 and 13-25), but defeated Eureka College (25-19, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-15) and Knox College (25-8, 24-26, 25-15 and 25-13). Fontbonne is now 2-5 overall.
Junior transfer Taryn Ballmann was named to the All-Tournament team. Ballmann recorded 14 kills against the Eureka Red Devils and 20 kills against the Knox Prairie Fire. Defensively, senior Olivia Thurmond dug out 115 attack attempts on the weekend and junior Cassie Dougherty recorded 12 of the 26 total blocks for the Griffins. Freshman setter Mandy DeWitt, added 62 assists to her season totals.
Fontbonne opens their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play this week playing four SLIAC games. Fontbonne returns home this Tuesday to take on the Principia College Panthers at 7pm.
