Five Griffins earn MWLC honors
April 28, 2011 - Five Fontbonne University women's lacrosse players recently received Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference honors. Seniors Claire Kallio and Emily Spalding, and sophomore Carolann Brenzo were named to the All-MWLC First Team while junior Mary Alice Pierce and Genny Price were named to the All-MWLC Second Team.
Kallio started all 16 games for the Griffins in the cage recording 160 saves with a 12.24 GAA. Kallio, a four-year starter, holds school records for most career victories as a goalie and most saves.
Spalding, a senior attacker, recorded a school record 51 points this season on 32 goals and 19 assists. She led the team in assists and finished second in goals. Spalding now holds school record for most assist in a season, most points in a season and most career assists.
Brenzo recorded 15 goals and two assists as a defender for the Griffins. She finished third on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers.
Pierce, a junior midfielder, set a school record this season for most goals in a season with 45. She finished second on the team in points with 47.
Price, a sophomore defender, started nearly every game for the Griffins this season. She was known for her consistent and steady play.
Fontbonne finished with a 5-11 overall record and a 3-4 MWLC record.
