Griffins end Florida trip on positive note
The Fontbonne University women's softball team has won three of their last four games during their Spring Break trip to the NFC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Included in those three wins is a 6-5 victory over #7 ranked Luther College. The Griffins have improved to 10-8 on the season.
After losing three straight games to start their trip, the Griffins defeated Buffalo State University on March 25th 9-5. In that game, the Glixman sisters (Cassie and Danni) went a combined 3-8 with three runs scored and four RBI's. Sophomore Cassie blasted her first career home run in that game. Junior Sarah Cerutti went 1-3 in the game with two runs scored and and two RBI's.
Freshman Lindsay Schaefer threw two and a third innings in relief to pick up the victory. She allowed no hits and walked nobody while striking out four.
After losing to University of Chicago, Fontbonne then reeled off three straight victories including beating Luther College. In that victory, Fontbonne freshman Emily Smith provided a big three-run triple in the first inning to help lead the Griffins. Freshman Madi Leonard went the distance on the mound for Fontbonne picking up the win. Leonard allowed just five hits and three earned runs.
Today, Fontbonne blasted St. Olaf University 11-2 and Fredonia St. University 11-0 to conclude their Florida trip. Schaefer picked the win against St. Olaf and junior Rachel McCarthy recorded the win against Fredonia State University.
Fontbonne will return to the diamond this weekend playing at Rhodes College against Emory University and Rhodes College.
