Softball adds seven new players for the 2013 season
Introduction to incoming softball players by Coach Rosner:
Madi Leonard, Seckman High School, is a four year right handed pitcher that is going to bring good things to the mound for us at Fontbonne. She is a strike out pitcher that throws north/south in the strike zone with good velocity. Her senior year she averaged over 12 strikeouts per 7 innings, striking out 175 in total. Leonard pitches for the St. Louis Fusion (Mike Linck) in the summer and has had continued success against solid opponents.
Lindsay Schaefer, Seckman High School is a four year right handed pitcher who can play third and first base as well as DH. She is a solid pitcher, 9th in high school for ERA, and in the summer plays for the St. Louis Illusion (Ira Bergman). She is forced to throw against quality opponents and can really swing a good bat. Schaefer hits, pitches, and plays the field well and will be an outstanding addition to our program.
Jackie Linck is an incoming freshman from Duchesne High School and an outfielder for the St. Louis Fusion (Mike Linck). Linck brings quality outfield play and has a slap that can be dropped down for a bunt or drive in a run. She also stands and hits from the left side of the plate which is much needed. She runs well, can steal bases, has a great head for the game, and wants to win. We've always said, get on base and you will find a place in the lineup and that is what Jackie does best.
Morgan Baer, Ursuline Academy High School, is an incoming freshman. She is a right handed utility player that likes to play the outfield. She can also catch and play some third base. She has a good arm; runs the bases well and seems to get big hits when her team needs one. She plays summer softball for the Missouri Warcats. Versatility is such a good tool to possess and Morgan has just that. She is going to pressure people to play well and will find innings all over the field.
Courtney Kraus, an incoming freshman from Valley Park High School is a right handed utility player that swings for power. Kraus hit .600 in her high school career with 5 homers and 23 RBI. She runs well, has tremendous work ethic, and is afraid of nothing. She also joined Linck's St. Louis Fusion this season and has adapted well to the higher level of play. She can play OF, 3B, and catcher so we get another versatile player that will pressure teammates for playing time.
Caitlin Nappier, Valmeyer High School is an incoming freshman. She bats and throws from the right side and can play both the outfield and second base. She hits for average, drives in runs, gets timely hits, and can play at a high level all day. She currently plays for the St. Louis Fusion Gold (Scott Sullivan). When she adds strength she may be unstoppable. Caitlin just gets the job done. She hits top pitching in the Midwest every weekend and I've already said hitting gets you in the lineup. Defensively she does a solid job in the outfield as well as second base. She understands how to play the game the right way.
Emily Smith is an incoming freshman from Ritenour High School. Smith is a right handed catcher that will provide immediate impact behind the plate in hopes of filling the big shoes left behind by Samantha Rosner. We couldn't be more excited to get Emily behind the plate, she is a tremendous addition. She throws out runners, blocks exceptionally well, and receives the ball as well as anyone in St. Louis. Smith also comes from Linck's St. Louis Fusion, so she knows some of her teammates already. She can call her own game and adapts to a coach calling. Offensively, Emily swings a solid bat and will hit for average once stronger.
