Men's and Women's Cross Country finish 2nd and 4th respectively at the Maryville Classic
The Fontbonne cross country team was back in action this past weekend at the Maryville Classic in St. Louis. Both teams had excellent showings, with the women grabbing 2nd and the men placing 4th.
The Griffins were again led by junior Alyssa Tonner on the women's side (7th) and Justin Horneker for the men (11th). Tonner was joined by teammates Adrienne Kaup (9th), Marielle Counts (15th), Claire Becker (18th), and Marcella Meyer (28th). Backing Horneker was a tight group which included senior Dillon Klaffer (16th), freshman Christian Sellars (18th), and senior Shae Naes (21st). The scoring five for the Griffins was rounded out by sophomore Brendan Middleton, who placed 31st.
"Today was a great opportunity for us to attack a true cross country course. With wet conditions, multiple creek crossings, and a steep, muddy hill, we were able to throw time goals out the window and focus on competing" said head coach Jake Shaver. "Our plan was to get out smart and move up, and both teams executed that plan to perfection."
The team has this weekend off before heading to the highly competitive Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at Augustana College on September 21st.
