Fulton, Mo. - Fontbonne men's soccer opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a devastating 7-1 loss to Westminster College Saturday. The Griffins fall to 2-6 on the season.
Fontbonne tallied just five shots in the match vs. Westminster's 17. At halftime, the Blue Jays were shutting out the Griffins 5-0. Two of Westminster's three headers were in the diving fashion. Fontbonne's lone goal was recorded in the 78th minute as Alex Lamoreaux managed to get a foot on the ball which eventually made its way into the net after a Blue Jay deflection. Griffin goalkeeper Tony Pitaro suffered the loss while scoring three saves in the game.
Fontbonne travels to Millikin Tuesday for a 7:30pm contest followed by a trip to MacMurray College this weekend. The Griffins only return home Tuesday for a Big Bend rivalry matchup at home against Webster.
