Matt Bright
Bio

Matt Bright enters his second season on staff as the assistant men’s basketball coach for the Fontbonne University men’s basketball program. Bright brings a wealth of experience to the Clayton campus. His primary responsibilities will be on-floor coaching with a special emphasis on post play, Bright also handles much of the program’s recruiting efforts as well as opponent scouting. Coach Bright is also the head coach for the Junior Varsity basketball team.

Bright began his second stint on staff at Fontbonne during the 2011-2012 season. He previously spent three years on the bench as an assistant for the Griffins from 2007-2010. During that time, the program enjoyed tremendous success winning  two conference championships while earning two berths to the NCAA tournament. During Bright’s time at Fontbonne he has helped to recruit and coach five all-conference performers. Bright also spent six years as the Fontbonne University head men’s volleyball coach from 2007-2012.

“I feel very fortunate to have Matt on staff with us here. He brings a ton of experience to the program and is an incredible recruiter and teacher of the game,” commented head coach Steve Schafer.

Bright began his coaching career at Lindbergh High School where he was an assistant varsity boy’s basketball coach and head freshman coach 2002-2007. While at Lindbergh, Bright helped the Flyers reach the school’s first final four appearance in over thirty years.

Bright is a 2001 graduate of Fontbonne University. He was a member of both the men’s basketball program and golf program during his four years. He graduated with a degree in middle school education.

Coach Bright currently resides in St. Louis with his wife Lindsey. He is a history teacher at Hancock Middle School.
