Muddy conditions allow Spalding to cruise past Griffins
St. Louis- Wet weather and a slippery infield didn't mix well for the Griffins against the multitude of Spalding University bunts yesterday.
The Griffins fell 8-1 and 10-2 to finalize their fourth place finish in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season play, enabling Spalding to secure the third seed.
The first matchup of the day was tied 1-1 until Fontbonne errors enabled Spalding to score three runs in the sixth, followed by four more in the seventh.
Hudson recorded the win for Spalding after striking out six and allowing eight hits. Schlereth suffered the loss for Fontbonne.
Second game woes continued for the Griffins as they recorded three more errors with just six hits compared to the Eagles thirteen hits.
Becker allowed nine hits and nine runs in 4.2 innings of work. Phan recorded the win, pitching eight innings and striking out five.
Fisher was the offensive threat for Fontbonne, going 4-7 on the day.
Fontbonne has an 18-21 record, with a final regular season contest today at noon against the Golden Eagles once again.
