Women’s Cross Country Runs to a Third Place Finish at the SLIAC Championships
The Fontbonne University women's cross country team finished third overall this weekend at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. Alyssa Tonner was tabbed first-team all-conference while Marielle Counts garnered second-team all-conference honors. Anne Marx was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Webster University won the championship edging out defending champions Principia College.
Leading the way for the Griffins was Tonner who finished in third place with a time of 24:09. Right behind her was Counts with a time of 24:41 which was good for ninth place. Kelia Hamilton came across the finish line in 25:46 placing 19th overall. Jessica Brock came in 24th place with a time of 26:44. Rounding out the Griffin scoring was Marx who finished 27th overall in 27:24.
Coach Barker was very pleased with his team's performance, "The women ran terrific! Alyssa Tonner and Marielle Counts are turning into very solid runners. Their best running is still to come. They are very talented and I cannot wait to see their improvements over the next two years. I am proud of all the girls."
