St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's soccer finished regular season play today with a 3-0 victory over Principia College. Fontbonne's regular season record is now 12-6-1 and the Griffins end with an 8-1 conference record.
Fontbonne's 8-1 record is the largest win percentage since Spalding joined the conference in 2013. It's the first time the Griffins have only lost one conference game and won all others since 2012.Fontbonne's only loss came by one goal to No. 1 seeded Webster University.
The Griffins have earned the No. 2 seed in the SLIAC Tournament, scheduled for next week. Fontbonne will host Spalding University, the No. 3 seed, on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m.
It was an usually warm game today for the end of October. Daniele Caruso slipped a pass up the opposite sideline where Meredith Wendt recorded the game winning goal. Wendt continues to lead the team in scoring with her 14th goal of the year.
In the second half, Jacey Pate opened scoring when she worked the ball around to give Fontbonne a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute. The Griffins notched their final goal of the regular seaosn in the 85th minute when senior Natalie Sipole sent a pass from the middle of the field up to Hannah Andrzejewski for her third goal of the year. Sipole now has 10 assists this year, tied for fourth in the record book for assists in a season.
The shutout is Fontbonne's ninth of the year and senior Tayler Pulvirenti's 10th win.
