Griffins End Season with Three Losses

St. Louis, Mo. - Continuing to play with only 10 players on the field, the Fontbonne women's lacrosse team scored 12 goals in their final three games of the season.

Against Benedictine (Ill.), the Griffins struggled with several injuries during the second half, adding pressure and fatigue to their already small squad. Fontbonne trailed 7-4 at halftime, but those injuries hurt the Griffins more as Benedictine out-scored them 9-2. Sarah Blasko pulled down six draw controls with five different Griffins scoring. Defensive freshman Merinda Lincoln scored her first collegiate goal during the game with Megan Force scoring her second goal of the season on her second shot of the season.

Celebrating Senior Day for Tierney O'Brien, the Griffins found themselves trailing Aurora 13-1 at halftime. Each team scored five goals during the second half as Aurora won 18-5. Fontbonne's goal of the season occurred with 4:47 left in the game. O'Brien threw a hidden assist to Blasko with a beautiful quick stick right under the top crossbar. It was by far the best goal of the season which had fans chatting for a while after the game.

Fontbonne traveled to Augustana for their final game of the season. The Vikings were undefeated in MWLC play and shut down the Griffins 21-0. Augustana controlled the game as Fontbonne gained only three of 24 draw attempts. A would-be Augustana goal was recalled after the shooter's stick was found to be illegal. This gave Fontbonne their only shot attempt that almost snuck through the goalkeeper's legs on Taylor McGowen's attempt to get the Griffins on the board.

Fontbonne loses lone senior Tierney O'Brien who totaled 30 goals, 30 groundballs and 29 draw controls. O'Brien was also named Outstanding Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Student.
