A slow start proved costly for the Fontbonne University women's lacrosse team as they fell behind Aurora University on Saturday and couldn't recover. The Griffins lost 10-5 to fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC).
Aurora scored four unanswered goals to open the game before junior Tierney O'Brien scored for the Griffins to cut the deficit to 4-1. Aurora scored a late first half goal to push the lead to 5-1 heading into halftime.
Fontbonne played much better in the second half as Aurora outscored them just 5-4 over the final 30 minutes. After being outshot 15-7 in the first half, Aurora outshot Fontbonne just 10-9 in the second half.
Fontbonne will return to the field Saturday night hosting Mount St. Joseph College at 7 pm for their Senior Night game.
