Men's Soccer Extends Its Winning Streak Out To Five Against MacMurray

Jacksonville, Ill.— The Fontbonne University men's soccer team made it five wins in a row on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over MacMurray.

Fontbonne (11-4-1; 6-1 SLIAC), dominated from start-to-finish as they outshot the Highlanders 19-1. Greg Ferry and Kevin Gregorc each netted a goal, while Tony Pitaro picked up the win in net after making one save.

In the first half, the Griffins offense came out in sync as they totaled four shots in the first 14 minutes, but Highlanders goalie Jacob Trim kept them out of the net.

Then, in the 17th minute, the Griffins earned a corner kick. Alex Phillips was able to find Ferry and he scored his sixth on the season to make it a 1-0 game. The two teams battled the rest of the way as FBU outshot MacMurray 3-1, but Trim was able to keep it a 1-0 game going into the break.

In the second half, the Griffins were able to expand on its lead at 60:39 when Corey Schmidt totaled his team-high seventh assist on Gregorc's goal. That proved to be more than enough for Fontbonne as they went on for the 2-0 win.

The team returns to the pitch at home on Tuesday when they'll host Spalding at Centene Stadium. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
