Schulz earns SLIAC POY honors, Flack NOY
Nov. 7, 2011 - Despite a crushing end to the season, five Fontbonne University men's soccer players took home awards from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).
The Griffins lost 1-0 in overtime of the SLIAC semifinal last week to eventual champion Greenville College. The loss ended the Griffins' season as they completed their 2011 campaign with a 11-6-2 record.
Fontbonne sophomore Josh Schulz however earned SLIAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors. Schulz led the Griffins in scoring with eight goals and six assists for 22 points. Schulz led the SLIAC in scoring in conference games with six goals and six assists for 18 points. Schulz also earned SLIAC All-Tournament team honors.
Schulz was joined in the First Team All-Conference by senior midfielder Dan Lourie. Lourie, the team's captain, was instrumental in assisting the Griffins retain possession throughout the season.
Fontbonne junior Charlie Chafin earned Second Team All-Conference honors after leading the Griffins in assists with eight. He also earned SLIAC All-Tournament honors.
Griffin freshman Jordan Flack earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year and Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Flack tallied six goals and four assists on the season. He finished with six goals and three assists in SLIAC games to finish fourth in the conference in points.
Fontbonne sophomore Justin Williams also earned SLIAC Honorable Mention All-Conference honors after recording six goals and five assists this season.
