St. Louis- The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team dropped their final game of the 2013 season last night falling to Aurora University 18-7. The Griffins finished the season with a 8-8 overall record and a 4-6 Midwest Lacrosse Conference record. The Griffins eight victories this season tie a school record for most wins in a season.
After falling behind 6-1 midway through the second quarter, Fontbonne staged a late second quarter rally scoring three unanswered goals to go into halftime trailing just 6-4. During that span, senior Tucker Nickols scored two goals.
After halftime, Aurora came out and took the game over. Aurora scored five unanswered goals to open the second half and stretch their lead to 11-4. A late third quarter goal by senior Peter Travis made the score 11-5 but Aurora answered by scoring six more unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.
For the game, Travis finished with a team-high three goals while senior goalie Chad Meurer made 16 saves in defeat. In all, 12 Fontbonne seniors played in their final game last night as the Griffins held a Senior Night ceremony prior to the game.
