Rock Island, Ill. - Fontbonne University men's basketball fell to No. 18-ranked Augustana College tonight 106-66.
Senior forward Jeff Smith connected on six of nine attempts and scored the team-high 15 points in the loss. Freshman Tyler Schwartz recorded a career-high 11 points after connecting on three treys and adding one other bucket. Sophomore Kris McCann also notched double digits scoring 10 points.
Augustana got off to an 8-0 start before Smith gave the Griffins their first two points on the scoreboard. Up by four, Augustana scored doubled their score before Fontbonne was able to score again. The Griffins reached double digits after senior Orkan Bakis drained a three-pointer to cut Augustana lead to 25-11 with 12:31 left in the first half. At halftime the Griffins trailed 62-31.
Fontbonne scored seven straight points to open second-half play but the Vikings responded by scoring 16 straight points in the middle of the second half. Augustana continues their win streak as the Vikings are now 4-0 on the year.
Fontbonne is off until next week when they open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Westminster. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30th.
