Baseball's pitching & 24 hits combine for wins against Eureka

Eureka, Ill. - Fontbonne University baseball opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on the road this season. The Griffins opened divisional play with two games on Saturday at Eureka College where the Griffins shutout the Red Devils in game one 3-0 and took down the hosts 10-5 in round two.

Game 1

Levi Earnest got the start and the sophomore allowed just one hit over six innings of work on the mound. Joey Clemente came in to pitch the final inning as he earned his first save of the year.

Ben Greenway singled up the middle in the fourth inning as Ethan Boyer crossed home for the game-winning run. Leading 1-0 in the top half of the final frame, outfielder Ethan Borrowman hit a two-run shot to left field to close out scoring in the contest. Ryan Schocker doubled during the game.

Game 2

Freshman Luke Summers got the start and earned his first collegiate win after striking out five Red Devils across five innings.

The Griffins recorded 18 hits in the win and led 7-0 before Eureka scored five runs in the third and fourth innings. Leading 9-5, Fontbonne secured their final run in the top of the seventh.

Patrick Shuff singled to right to score Schocker for the game-winning run in the sixth.

On the day, Schocker went two-for-six with four RBI while Greenway went two-for-five with three RBI. Logan Mueth earned three hits on four at-bats while also walking twice. Shuff, Matt Tossicka dn Jonathan Hoevelmann each recorded a lone RBI. Boyer stole twice while Michael Golich tallied a lone stolen base.

Fontbonne and Eureka meet up again Sunday morning at 9 a.m. That time was moved up due to weather concerns in the afternoon.
